Things I like
Music Especially singing. I was lucky enough to spend my undergraduate years listening to the best choir in the world six times a week. You don't recover from that.
Reading. I'm one of those people who will read the cereal packet if there's nothing else. Books are like oxygen for me. I'm still coming to terms with the fact that I will never read all the books in the world- and actually, some of them really aren't worth it- but it's still a struggle.
Riding. I'm dyspraxic, so I was one of those kids who were hopeless at any kind of sport involving hand-eye coordination. Horses don't seem to mind too much. I'm too old now to be any good, but I still enjoy it and do it regularly. I also liked rowing, but that really is asking way too much of a dyspraxic, so I gave it up.
Rugby. I grew up in the 1970s with a Welsh dad, so it was inevitable. And 5 years in Leicester just confirmed it. Even the cat's called Welford, after the Leicester Tigers mascot.
Languages. I speak reasonable German, French and Swedish. I can read but not speak Italian, and get by for holidays in Spain. I can manage basic liturgical Latin and New Testament Greek, but not Hebrew. My Welsh is disappointingly bad, but I don't intend to leave it that way for ever. If I can ever afford to retire (not very likely at this rate) I'll learn some more.... like books, there can never be too many!
Travel. Seeing new places, experiencing new things.
Best place I've ever been to? Probably Jerusalem, though it is also by far the saddest. Or Venice- just beautiful, but also quite sad. I'm glad I saw it before it finally sinks.
Place I'd most like to try living? Sweden. Only in the summertime though, probably. I can do cold, but non-stop darkness would be pretty tough.
Strangest food? Once, in a restaurant in Bergamo, donkey.
